SANAD PANTRY PROGRAMS

Our hunger-alleviation network is structured to offer diverse avenues for individuals to access food during challenging times. In fact, 28% of the food is directly allocated to those in need through the following programs.

Our Onsite Food Pantry:
Nourishing Families

Sanad Food Pantry in Chicago is dedicated to serving both individuals and families. Participants have the opportunity to visit once a week, and our unique ‘choice pantry’ approach enables them to select fresh produce, milk, grains, and other essential nutritious items that support their active, healthy lifestyles.

The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)

At times, our neighbors require additional support due to circumstances such as job loss, the loss of a family provider, unexpected illness, or other challenges. This is why Sanad collaborates with the federal program TEFAP to offer no-cost groceries to individuals and families with limited financial resources. Participants who meet TEFAP’s income criteria can access supplementary pantry items provided by TEFAP, including beans, peanut butter, canned vegetables, and cereals.

Hot Meals

Not everyone has the means to reach our onsite food pantry or visit one of our Partner Agencies, often due to transportation limitations, medical disabilities, conflicting work schedules, or various other obstacles. Therefore, we take our services to them. Sanad extends the concept of “pantries on wheels” to neighborhoods with limited access to nutritious foods. We deliver fresh produce, dairy, meat, and various other provisions to locations such as schools, churches, and other sites across Chicago.

Our Senior Food Program:
Supporting Elders

The health of senior citizens is greatly influenced by their nutrition. Unfortunately, obtaining healthy food can be challenging for older adults who rely on fixed incomes and have limited transportation options, or may even be confined to their homes.

Through our Elder Share program, we offer free groceries twice a month to low-income seniors in neighborhoods across Chicago. For individuals who are homebound, one of our volunteers can personally deliver grocery items to their doorstep.

Assistance with Utilities

Alongside TEFAP, we offer no-cost, emergency food support to individuals requiring immediate assistance, serving as a crucial bridge until they can access other available programs. Recipients receive a combination of fresh and non-perishable food items, and our dedicated staff frequently tailor the selection to accommodate dietary restrictions and consider their access to food storage and cooking facilities. This service is accessible at our warehouse, with a limit of once every three months. Furthermore, all recipients are provided with information and referrals to additional resources for sustained or ongoing food requirements.
